THE Waste of Electronic and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive
This is new European Legislations that is stopping companies and individuals just skipping their Electronic and Electronic Waste. For example, Computers, Printer, Mobile Phones, TVs, Video etc.MagicWand has put together a Partnership of Companies and Organizations to assist companies in the Edinburgh and Lothian's area.
The Organisations that have agreed to the Partnership include a registered charity, Midlothian Advice & Resource Centre (MARC) , International Waste Management Group (IWMG) and Moock Environmental Solutions.
Together we can achieve more.
When you have the IWMG collect your equipment, you are then assisting your local community by giving them the raw material (Computer systems) to help people be taught new skills, assisting the Environment by reducing the amount of waste going into Landfills.
In Summary:
Social, Corporate and Environmental Responsibilities are being met.
By utilising each members strengths, we can up lift any amount of equipment from the East Coast of Scotland, then sort out the working material and non-working material. All non-working material will be processed for Recycling, this means that the waste will be treated until, finally it is a raw material.
All working computer parts will be donated to MARC. MARC will then remove all existing data from the computer system, then run training courses to teach local people to fix and repair their own computer system. At the end of the course people will be able to take home the computer system for them and their family to use.
This course is designed for a novice and is assisting Midlothian in "bridging the digital divide" . Giving people access to computer system in their home.
Please remember that on the 15th August 2004, the WEEE starts.
If you or your company would like to join, please call 01875 822 917 for more details.
